• Topographical Surveys

Farsley Celtic Football Club

Farsley Celtic Football Club required a complete and accurate understanding of their site to support future redevelopment and planning proposals.

Project highlights

  • Comprehensive topographical and measured building surveys covering the entire operational football site.
  • Accurate control network ensuring precise capture of levels, boundaries, and key site features.
  • High-resolution laser scanning delivering detailed plans, elevations, roof layouts, and sections.
  • Safe measurement of complex roof geometry despite restricted access conditions.
  • Clear, complete CAD outputs providing a reliable foundation for planning and redevelopment.

The challenge

This included a full topographical survey of the football grounds, covering the pitch, terraces, car park, and surrounding infrastructure, as well as detailed measured building surveys for all structures on site. The scope demanded floor plans, external elevations, roof plans, and cross-sections, all delivered to a high level of precision.

Surveying an operational sports facility also meant working around ongoing training and activity while maintaining consistent accuracy across a large, varied site.

The solution

To meet these requirements, we established a robust control network and conducted a comprehensive topographical survey using a combination of total station and GNSS equipment. This ensured accurate capture of all key features, including levels, boundaries, lighting, drainage points, and surface changes.

For the buildings, we used high-resolution laser scanning supported by traditional measurement techniques, allowing us to produce detailed floor plans, elevations, roof layouts, and internal sections. This workflow also enabled us to safely and accurately measure complex roof geometry, even where access was restricted.

The outcome

The final deliverables included a full collection of CAD drawings: a clean, layered topographical plan in 2D and in 3D, complete building floor plans, precise elevations, roof plans, and strategically placed sections. These outputs provided the client and their design team with a reliable and highly detailed foundation for planning and redevelopment work.

The project delivered clarity on existing site conditions, supported informed decision-making, and ensured the club could move forward with confidence in the accuracy of their survey data. This comprehensive understanding of the site has played an important role in helping the club plan for future improvements and long-term development of their facilities.
